It’s funny, I just re-watched Nightcrawler since it’s on Netflix, and I have to admit, I love it way more now since it was shot in places I am currently a drive away from. Dan Gilroy did something so astounding with Gyllenhaal’s character of Lou Bloom, a weirdly enthusiastic lunatic who seems to have ambition you admire, but cringe over. We all know the snubs this film got at the Oscars, but 2014 was a great year if you love movies either way.
While this film doesn’t have a title or plot description yet, we don know that Gilroy wants to make the film with his two big stars from before (RIP Bill Paxton by the way) Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo respectively.
Gilroy is in the early stages of his next film Inner City starring Denzel Washington in what is described as a legal thriller about an idealistic defense attorney. Even though movement has been minimal for Inner City, that isn’t stopping Gilroy from getting the wheels moving on his next film post Inner City.
From what we know, this untitled film is something that is coveted by a fair amount of studios. All we can go with is that it is “set in the art world”, whatever that means, but if it has that manic, meditative atmosphere like Nightcrawler did then we are up for a really fascinating film. But first, how about we see what Inner City has to offer and go from there.
