Godzilla 2 Likely To Have Three More Monsters We Know & Love
All we heard from this film were the human castings, but little was known about who the hell Godzilla himself was going to face, but as predictions in familiar films often are, our guesses may be right.
The first official synopsis for the film has released to give a look into what we’re to expect:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
You read that right, we’re finally able to see the iconic kaiju that are Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. If you don’t know of the giant moth creature with two little Asian women on it’s back or the prehistoric reddish pterodactyl then I don’t know what to tell you, but I’m sure for some weird reason you’ve seen the three headed alien dragon simply named King Ghidorah.
Going off of my knowledge of the original films from back in the day, Mothra and Rodan are definitely characters that start off as foes or foils to Godzilla, but like heroes do, they team up to take down an even greater menace which would likely be the golden space dragon shooting lightening from its throats.
Michael Dougherty (Krampus) is the man behind the camera as well as writer for the film with his long time partner Zach Shields. I didn’t like Krampus all that much even though I thought it had a lot of promise and interesting mythology which is exactly what I’d say about him taking on Godzilla 2. So long as he actually shows the monsters dueling against each other and kill off all the actors – because face it, we don’t care about them – then I’m solid.
If there is one thing Gareth Edwards did well with his version of Godzilla which we now have, it was making him cool in the moments we did actually see him. The reveal was outstanding and the climax of the film was actually pretty good, but there just need to be more monsters. Hopefully Dougherty can redeem himself and add to this giant monsters universe that they are unveiling for us.
