While I don’t like the Transformers films so long as Michael Bay is making them, the Bumblebee spin-off soon to be directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) intrigues me nonetheless, and so long as they don’t overcrowd the film with too many human characters then I can jump on board. What also gets me going is the fact that Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit, Pitch Perfect) may be in talks to star as the human protagonist of the film.
In case any of you simpletons didn’t know already, Bumblebee is the yellow and black one with a radio for a voice box.
All we know about Steinfeld’s character is that she is likely to be a tomboy gear head, which is a little more believable than Megan Fox’s attempt at the type of role in the first few films. The writer for Shut In, Christina Hodson will be writing the script for the film.
Whether we like them or not, Transformers has made almost $4 billion at the worldwide box office as a franchise and they have plenty of money and room to expand if they choose. They definitely chose the latter. As every studio feels the need to do, Paramount will be expanding their films by making an entire cinematic universe – vomits in mouth – and will focus on other characters in the canon of films and source material.
The film is expected to be released June 8th, 2018.
