Parents shouldn’t have to bury their children… but it’s when tragedies like the one the Snyder family faced last March do we realize the extent of what it means to humans more than to be just fans. Snyder’s daughter took her life two months ago. Zack and his wife Deborah are both incredibly active in the DC Extended Universe that we’ve seen try to come together, and even though we’ve all admitted to frustrations and disappointment with the universe’s assembly, that doesn’t matter now.
The rumors of Justice League getting reshoots and additional scenes to the film has been circling the web as of late, but with Snyder stepping down we will now see Joss Whedon take over the already planned reshoots and head the rest of the post production which will mean he will direct the reshoots as well as rework any scenes needed. In an official statement by Zack himself, he had this to say:
“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it. The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming. And in the last two months I’ve come to the realization …I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.”
This goes so far beyond Marvel vs. DC or your preferences about the films or the people involved with them. Tragedy is tragedy and this family deserves your support and respect. If you’re a fan of superheroes then you know that they’re their best in times like this, not just when they fight the villain, but rather when they are able to console other heroes and good people.
Warner Brothers has been handling the situation with dignity and class for the Snyder’s by allowing Zack to delay Justice League until he was able to come back onto the film, but he declined. That’s where Whedon comes into play as mentioned above.
Our love and support of course goes to Snyder and his family…
