Kevin Smith Has A Script For ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’

No, you read that correctly, the creator of Clerks and Dogma will be returning to a duo that has made an appearance in most of his films by poking at Hollywood yet again with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Unfortunately for those of you who wanted that Mallrats sequel set in the Exton Square Mall in Pennsylvania (me) that project has been shelved as has Clerks III.

Smith has been making films he wants to make his whole life. The outlandish and snappy dialogue, as well as characters that are basically just him and his friends talking, will always be staples of his character and creations, but he had branched off of that path to make low budget horror comedies in the mean time. Ironically, Smith’s title and story line for the film will poke fun at the endless sequelization of movies in today’s era by using his characters in the satirical ways we know and love.

The news of the two projects not coming to fruition was disheartening to read as Smith posted on his lengthy Instagram post. To make it simple to read and understand, Clerks III didn’t happen because one of the four friends opted out of the project and no network wanted to buy the idea of a Mallrats TV show. Bummer right? But that’s just how Hollywood goes.

The always fluffy and optimistic Smith at least had this to say to get us excited for his next film:

Since I sold Clerks and Mallrats years ago, they’re owned by others, which limits my moves with my own material. I don’t mind: back in the day, all I ever wanted to do was sell my stuff so I could be in the movie biz in the first place. So I don’t own Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy or Dogma… But I DO own Jay and Silent Bob.

His self aware humor isn’t going anywhere and to see Jay and Silent Bob back on the big screen will still be a treat for fans of theirs. There’s no official release date nor shooting date, but with the cameos galore likely to come into play it will have to work around those celebrities schedules.
