With original Godzilla director Gareth Edwards going off to make a billion dollar spin-off to some small franchise known as Star Wars, Legendary Pictures needed someone to take the place of director for their movie’s sequel. Who? Well, for those horror fans out there who loved Trick-R-Treat and made a drinking game out of Krampus, you’ll love the pick of Michael Dougherty.
I fell asleep through Krampus and was disappointed with what I saw when I was awake, but who’s to say that the horror director can’t bring some life into Godzilla 2 for when he verses King Kong post Kong: Skull Island?
Dougherty will get a script from his Krampus co-writer Zach Shields. The partnership with Legendary and Warner Brothers to make a shared large monster universe that will pin Godzilla and King Kong together will at least help give the duo a clear direction (you’d hope) on what is yet to come for the Kings of Monsters.
The film is expected to release March 22, 2019.
