If LucasFilm chose to only give us the title and a small poster that read December at the bottom as a substitute for trailers or any other marketing gimics, I think we’d all be just fine. Well, so far, that’s exactly what they’ve done, and the newest episodic sequel to the Star Wars universe has an official title of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
We can now let all the internet rumors, theories, and Easter egg hunts begin because this is a pretty noteworthy title if you know anything about the franchise. We’ve had Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi, but now Episode 8 with feature red lettering as well as a powerful, yet vague subtitle that could pose some serious trouble for one of the last big three Star Wars characters.
SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t seen The Force Awakens, but if you haven’t seen it now, you don’t plan on it…
With Han Solo’s death and the recent passing of Carrie Fisher now solidified (unfortunately) for the franchises future, people from the past, characters and their actors, are getting to a point where they end being one with the force for good, to phrase it lightly. While I think we need to put Mark Hamill in a padded bubble, I think it’s safe to assume that Luke will act like the Yoda to Rey in The Last Jedi, but even Yoda vanished into thin air when he died.
Maybe I’m totally wrong and all it means is that Luke is the last Jedi at the present time the story takes place and Rey will be the revival of a group of lightsaber wielding bad-asses in the long run, but for right now, Luke is indeed still the last of his kind. With this poster dropping today, you can almost guarantee that we are going to get footage either this week or sometime very soon.
