Nolan has risen up the ranks with nearly every film he has developed, written, and created. His style is always noticeably gorgeous from first and last glance while also poising itself to have smartly written scripts to match. He is not limited to one genre nor format of shooting and has made us excited for his first official war film Dunkirk.
An official poster was also released yesterday confirming that Nolan loves movie’s protagonists facing the destruction that will soon be upon them (as seen below).
The film is based on the epic true story of a British military operation that managed to save over 300,000 lives and shaped the outcome of World War II later on. The film stars staple actors for Nolan such as Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy while also bringing on now Oscar-winner Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and newcomer (to acting) Harry Styles.
This was a fine trailer, but it wasn’t what I expected with it being a war film about something so important and significant along with it being directed by Nolan. It felt like there were lots more explosions that I had imagined their being, and bare with me, I didn’t think the violence was believable enough. I don’t know if this film is Rated-R, but I’m not sure I’ve seen a PG-13 war film worth remembering (correct me on that). I want this to be a gritty, suspenseful, epic film directed by Nolan, and the trailer showed it could be that, but not yet.
The film is set for release July 21st, 2017.
