My favorite director returns with the much anticipated religious epic starring Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson, Adam Driver, Tadanobu Asano, and Ciarán Hinds. With the buzz on this film putting hornets to shame, it’s no surprise the trailer is just as impressive. With this being a film of Scorsese’s that doesn’t feature his two muses Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio, we get to see a brief departure of what Scorsese is known for. That’s not to say he hasn’t done a religious movie before or put his Roman Catholic beliefs into his movies, but this time he is going all out in the adaptation of the novel of the same name.
Andrew Garfield has made his presence known post Spider-Man in the best way he can and it doesn’t hurt the next two films we are going to see him in are said to be the Best-Picture contenders with the other film being Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge. Seeing Neeson take on a role that isn’t a B-level action movie is always good, but let’s not forget Adam Driver either.
Scorsese is on the Mount Rushmore of directors if you ask me. With that comes consistency and excellence in all areas of making a movie and I doubt that is going to change with what looks like one of the most excellent of all films in 2016. It didn’t give anything away nor did it present something that we didn’t expect. To say I’m excited is an understatement!
