Former Deadpool Director Tim Miller To Direct Live-Action ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Movie

So this is where Tim Miller ends up weeks after leaving the most profitable Rated-R film in history, huh? Eh well, what do I know until I see the film. We are mostly aware of the bright blue hedgehog with speed so impressive he has to steal rings and fight egg inspired villains.

Sony will be producing the CGI/live-action hybrid film with a family sensibility. Miller comes from a special effects background with a great relationship with Blur Studios and collaborator Jeff Fowler who would make his directorial debut.

I’ve always thought that a film based on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Doctor Eggman Robotnik would work better in the animation style of a Tin Tin or just straight CGI like a Wreck-It Ralph where Sonic makes an appearance, but these CGI/live-action hybrids don’t seem to work. I think of The Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks and cringe with fear at the direction this could go, but I will hold out hope.

Another promising element to all this is that the collaborators of Miller and Fowler have been nominated for an Oscar back in 2005 for their short animated film Gopher Broke. It’s always good when two people have chemistry when creating together and it’d be cool to see Miller and Fowler become the next Lord and Miller.
