One of my favorite films of the last five years is no doubt Dawn of the Planet of Apes. A film franchise from the past reborn with motion capture technology that will take your breath away with a story and characters that will do just the same. When I heard director Matt Reeves was returning to do the sequel to his film (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) I was floored to see what he’d do with the story moving forward.
Now we have an official synopsis for the film:
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins this own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
Not only does this sound completely bad-ass, but it sounds incredibly sad. The emotional guy punches the first two films gave us are what surprised audiences the most and how much we cared about these apes, but anything with war in the title is going to be brutal and gut-wrenching. I am beyond excited about this film, but mainly because of what Caesar will have to go through. The darkness that he has to go through will be an evolution of a character that will turn him into myth and legend.
