Director Denis Villenueve has been busy, or so I thought, with the sequel to the iconic science fiction masterpiece that is Blade Runner 2. To our surprise, Villenueve has completed another science fiction film before the conception of Blade Runner 2 and he brought on yet another star studded cast to hook us in with. Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker star in a film about an alien race landing on earth, but like those of you reading, no one knows much else.
It’s based on a short story by author Ted Chiang and has penned writer Eric Heisserer since 2012, but the star of this film is it’s director who seems to be batting a perfect average at this point, and has become a star in the director’s chair due to his intense storytelling and selectively beautiful style of shooting.
Already people are saying this could be another nomination for Amy Adams which isn’t all too surprising because the woman can act her ass off, no matter what the haters say on Reddit. Seeing Jeremy Renner is also a refreshing breath of talent in what appears to be a film that he can do more than shoot arrows (which he’s great at) and the indie circuit seems to be the spot he should stay perched for awhile. Forest Whitaker doesn’t need much hyping up, he’s just that good.
The film comes out November 11th, 2016.
