While Fast & Furious 6 was a fun sixth installment, fans knew that they weren’t going in there for Oscar caliber narrative, but rather a high octane thrill ride with cars and action and that’s what we got. Lin has finished production on the third installment of the latest Star Trek reboot with Star Trek Beyond coming out July 22nd. Only then can I allow judgement to pass on this possible news story.
Akira is a groundbreaking anime that paved the way for endless aspects of anime we see today and a live-action version of the film has been rumored for years. The most recent rumors tied Christopher Nolan to the direction of the movie and at one point Leonardo DiCaprio was involved as a producer and possible star. Since then, the rumors have fallen to the waste-side until now.
The rights are owned by Warner Brothers which is why they likely tried to court their golden child Nolan and with their other golden child working heavily in the DCEU and portraying Batman, Ben Affleck would be too busy, and don’t expect their other big name (Clint Eastwood) to take on a film like this. Lin could surprise us, but we will have to wait and see with Star Trek Beyond and keep the mindset of “what have you done for me lately?”.
