I’ve never been a fan of Thor in the comics and I think his movies are the weaker ones of the MCU. That being said, I just became far more interested in his third installment once I saw the list of confirmed cast members for the movie. We already knew The Hulk/Bruce Banner was going to make a significant appearance in the film, but we now have a list of strong actors in line to also bring some so gravitas to this third Thor films.
Here is the list: Cate Blanchett will portray new MCU villain Hela, Jeff Goldblum with portray the “eccentric” Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson will become the iconic hero Valkyrie, and finally, Karl Urban will make his appearance in the MCU as the mighty Skurge.
This film was on most of our radars, but to have such a talented cast hopefully portraying signifcant characters like the names would imply, we could be in for the best Thor film to date. With Thor and Bruce Banner aka The Hulk not making an appearance in Captain America: Civil War (which just made a billion dollars) it would be cool to see something of Civil Wars large scale, but on different planets and nebulae with more fantasy/sci-fi elements like Kevin Feige has been hinting at. Feige has this to say about the newest cast members:
“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet. The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.”
If that doesn’t sum up what our general thoughts are, I don’t know what will. What We Do In The Shadows director Taika Waititi will helm the film and boy does he have some fun new toys to work with. It’d be criminal to not get a quality end result with all these heavy hitters in all departments, but this acting list is just special. Expect quality visuals, intense action sequences, some classic Marvel films chuckles, but also a fully realized world full of fantasy/sci-fi meshings like the prior two Thor films, but hopefully it will be even better.
