According to Deadline, director Gareth Edwards has left the sequel to his Godzilla (2014) film, but has left amicably with Legendary Studios and Warner Bros. Edwards has a little Star Wars film coming out this December and has stated he wants to work on smaller projects of his own in the future.
There is no news on who could come in to replace Edwards nor if there will be a change in release dates for Godzilla vs. Kong, but I don’t imagine Legendary and Warner Bros. panicking just yet since the film doesn’t expect to release until May 20th, 2020.
If you all vaguely remember the news about the shift in ownership for these projects, you’d recall that Kong: Skull Island went from Universal to Legendary and Warner Bros. which is where Edward’s Godzilla was distributed. Continuity should be the same, but who will bring these monsters to life now?
