I was beyond shocked when it was announced that Sony was in fact crossing over two big properties that are the 21 Jump Street films as well as the trilogy of Men In Black films, but since then, they have continued to make moves by getting their director in James Bobin.
Bobin has the sequel to the financial hit Alice in Wonderland (2010) with Alice Through the Looking Glass coming out later this year and he has directed fan favorites such as Flight of the Conchords and The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted. He also helped create characters such as Ali G, Borat, and Bruno as a writer and director on the show Da Ali G Show.
His comedic sensibilities as well as visual prowess should be a more reassuring detail on a project not many of us have been overly excited about, but with MIB having taken a dip in quality with their last two films and the 21 Jump Street films being the successes they were it adds to the intrigue and possibilites they are facing with the joined properties. As far as we know, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not going to be the Men in Black in this film or any others in the foreseeable future.
