With Hugh Jackman’s reign as Wolverine likely coming to a close with this final film in his solo efforts, Fox has found their big villain for the epic conclusion to what is likely the last Wolverine film we see Mr. Jackman in. The film has brought on Narcos star Boyd Holbrook to play “relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise” and will be the antagonist to Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Jackman’s Wolverine.
Holbrook can be seen as DEA Agent Steve Murphy on the crime drama show on Netflix as well as stints in David Fincher’s Gone Girl as well as the indie comedy drama The Skeleton Twins with Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig. Like most of the villains in the X-Men universe, this unnamed villain will too have an anti-mutant agenda he wishes to fulfill against our two leads and will likely bring many moments crashing down for our heroes.
With the hope that the rumors started by fans would come to fruition, having a non-mutant villain (so far) doesn’t sound good for the possible (loose) adaptation of the iconic Old Man Logan story-line fans have clamored for. It’s possible the film could still cast a mutant villain or bolster the bad guys with more casting reveals in the coming year.
