Cillian Murphy joining the cast of Christopher Nolan’s war-drama makes for the fifth film they will have worked on together – The Dark Knight Trilogy and Inception – and I can’t find anyone who is complaining about that news. Dunkirk is beginning to shape up as a film that will quickly rise up as one our most anticipated movies of its year. Murphy has always delivered quality performances with the limited screen time he has seen for mainstream audiences, but we all know his face as the Scarecrow from Nolan’s Batman films.
Murphy joins the top tier cast of Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance in supporting roles. For the main roles, Nolan has gone young and unknown to tell the story of the the evacuation of Dunkirk during World War II by bringing on Fionn Whitehead, Jack Lowden, Aneurin Barnard, and – you’re reading this right – Harry Styles of One Direction.
Dunkirk begins shooting this May so be on the lookout for more casting announcements as their shooting date quickly approaches.
