Young Han Solo Shortlist Revealed

In case you didn’t know, Disney and LucasFilm have pinned The LEGO Movie directors Lord and Miller to direct a prequel Han Solo film that we’ve all dubbed (for now) “Young Han Solo”. The shortlist of actors has become even shorter with some impressive young actors likely to take on the iconic role of the scruffy nerf hurder that is Han Solo.

The three handsome fellas above include Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Reynor, Taron Egerton respectively. Naturally, Disney has kept the rest of the list top secret from the media so these are the main names to discuss and for good reason. Ehrenreich may not be known to the public (yet), but if you saw the Coen Brother’s film Hail Caesar! then you know he was the best part of the movie as the type cast cowboy with a heart of gold. Next is Jack Reynor who, unfortunately has a credit for Transformers: Age of Extinction and then Taron Egerton from last years surprise hit Kingsman: The Secret Service.

All three of these names are quality for a role like this. They are all charismatic up and comers that won’t take away from the fact that they are playing one of the most iconic film characters in history. The other good news is that they are all extremely talented. While their credits are short, what they have is plenty to go off of.

If I was at gunpoint to choose, I know I’d respectfully take off Reynor, but then it’s a gamble with choosing between Egerton and Ehrenreich. I think Egerton is the guy to beat overall for what he’s done with this year’s Eddie the Eagle and Kingsman after not knowing who the heck he was prior, but after seeing Hail Caesar! I’m wanting to go with Ehrenreich. His ability to change accents and bring funny and charming elements to his quirky character was what made the film that much more entertaining and he is subtle as well, which is an understated talent for actors.
