DISCLAIMER: Certain things written could be considered spoilers to some so if you haven’t seen The Force Awakens yet, you’ve been warned.
With The Force Awakens is still racking in cash to add to its domestic box office records, but that officially doesn’t matter to Disney as they’ve already begun shooting on the sequel to Episode VII with director/writer Rian Johnson (Looper). From what it looks like, Johnson will be jumping directly into where we left off (as he should) in The Force Awakens with force sensitive, soon to be Jedi, Rey as she meets the grey haired Luke Skywalker after he has not been seen for nearly thirty years.
The returning cast for the film include: Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Carrie Fisher, and Anthony Daniels. New additions to the cast include Sicario’s Benicio del Toro who was rumored months ago to have involvement in the film and looks to now be an official cast member (role unknown). Joining del Toro is Oscar-nominated Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran which means the rumors surrounding Beyond the Lights star Gugu Mbatha-Raw joining the cast could be all but over.
The slate of Star Wars film go as follows: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16th, 2016, Star Wars: Episode 8 on December 15th, 2017, and the Han Solo Star Wars Anthology film on May 25th, 2018.
