It is now confirmed by Universal (and pretty much Vin Diesel yesterday) that F. Gary Gray is the guy to take on the eight installment of this high octane action franchise. My hopes and guesses for who was going to be the director to win the job was ultimately Gary Gray. His work on Straight Outta Compton this summer says plenty about what he can do with a large ensemble of people and his past experiences with other films like The Italian Job and Law Abiding Citizen.
Gray is a director who has a flare that will fit well with a franchise about cars and racing and ridiculous stunts, but he also has a clear ability to create well developed characters or bring to life the traits that make the characters who they are.
With the Fast and Furious characters already realized and recognized after seven films it should be no issue for Gray to deliver a fun story with them once again. Vin Diesel obviously supports the decision and posted a photo on his Facebook a day or two ago with the director with no captions so obviously their relationship is strong enough and a proper fit for the future.
What are your thoughts on Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray taking the reigns for the eighth Fast and Furious film?
