POWER RANGERS REBOOT GETS ITS KIMBERLY

When Lionsgate got the rights to the Might Morphin’ Power Rangers, we are looked in confusion as the campy 90’s live-action series was to eventually get a more “mature but still fun” re-imagining. There have been lists of actors and actresses up for the roles of the other main color rangers, but now confirmed is the new Pink Ranger and our Kimberly, Naomi Scott.

Earlier this year we were given small descriptions for the characters who we knew and loved from the first few seasons of Power Ranges with Kimberly’s description being this:

“17 years old, unconventionally cool all in a way the popular girls wish they were. In fact, she was one of those girls, but isn’t anymore. Not since she’s returned to school after an absence of 6 months. Rumors are flying as to why; rumors she seems not to care about, because she’s come back with this new rebel-without-a-cause, edgy attitude. But the truth is, it’s all masking a deep secret that makes her feel profoundly vulnerable.”

If that doesn’t ring “edgy” in your ears I’m not sure what will. There is still little to know about this reboot of the franchise into film form, but we can only wonder what made her the way she is in that description and with Naomi Scott appearing in the critical and financial hit (so far) The Martian we can only hope she brings some legitimacy to the character while having us still fall in love with her like when the series first appeared.

There is going to be quite a bit more story to these colorfully dressed superhero-like teenagers, especially since they are using the original characters from the first season.
