I love the Flash. He is arguably one of my all time favorite comic-book characters since I began reading them and to hear rumblings at one point the directing duo of Lord & Miller (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street) were likely to bring him to the live-action world (sorry Flash TV, but I just don’t like you like that), I was more than happy, but then this news dropped.
To whomever suffered through the weirdly comical Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter movie awhile back, you know why I’m sad. DC/WB has been receiving every ounce of praise from me for their choice of talent to surround their projects with, but for some reason, they choose a first time director who will then be writing the film as well? Where’s the logic in that?
Seth Grahame-Smith has strictly been a writer in his career in Hollywood and before that a best-selling author, but that doesn’t mean his track record is worth getting excited about for a film such as this. It pains me to know that Lord and Miller are going off to do a Han Solo film over this because what they were able to bring to the table was what they’ve done with most of their films and that is give a clear direction and focus while maintaining incredible humor and often some cool action and set pieces.
Remember, this Flash will not be anything related to the CW television show and will star Ezra Miller from The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
