As you all may know, that little film called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to be the film to let off a huge wave of new DC superhero movies starting with the Justice League characters and the Suicide Squad, but official reports from Warner Bros. claims they are making a “buddy cop comedy” type film with the characters Booster Gold and Blue Beetle.
This is a pleasant surprise and departure from what we all presumed DC would do and that was the brooding, realistic, gritty style of films for their superheroes, but now it looks like they realized that can’t be all they’re doing. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are not names a normal fan would know on the streets, but nerds you and I know that Booster Gold is a wisecracking time traveling superhero who wants nothing but fame and glory, while Blue Beetle is gadget wielding hero who often teams up with Booster Gold in the comics.
Other reports are that they are likely to now be in the upcoming Justice League film directed by Zack Snyder which would come as a surprise since they are more funny characters. It’s likely they could become the comedic relief the Justice League film needs and won’t take away from the core League members throughout the film.
If you can’t tell, I’m excited as I can be. Warner Bros. is proving that they are planned and organized like a well oiled studio machine should be and are digging in their bags for the next Guardians of the Galaxy type property to give audiences. It was rumored awhile back that these guys would make their appearances on television (thank God they aren’t) with other DC shows like Arrow, Flash, etc. but it turns out they have different plans. But there is still a connection with the show runners and the upcoming film and that is Greg Berlanti who will direct and produce the film while Zak Penn (screenwriter for films like X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk) is being sought out for the position of writer.
There are too many good reasons to be excited as excited as superhero fans and fans of DC properties in particular with their renaissance not even beginning until March. The news on these characters announcements has opened a box of new possibilities for how this DC Extended Universe will pan out in the future.
