Two of the top stars in Hollywood are dropped in the 1950’s as forbidden lovers in this Todd Haynes directed drama. Trapped in a marriage that’s lost it’s luster, Blanchett’s New York socialite character falls for a store clerk in Rooney Mara. Mara has since received the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival and has garnered Oscar buzz for her performances.
We in a world of progression and less topics are becoming taboo and with this tale about a lesbian relationship it could go one of two ways for audiences, but actors of this caliber wouldn’t sign on for a poor film.
The romance looks tastefully done and could boast honest romance that will gets our minds going, but it’s the dynamic of Blanchett’s character and her fight for custody of her daughter that will turn this story on it’s head.
The film will open in theaters November 20th.
